It's a great choice for people who have pets or children and want to keep the mess at bay. It didn't perform as well as the Samsung Powerbot R7070 or Neato Botvac connected in our pet hair test.

The Roomba 980P from iRobot, the company's most powerful model, is an improvement on its predecessor. It's smarter, more durable and more adept at removing hairs from pets. It also comes with a remote control.
The bin is located behind the robot. It can be opened by pressing a button to release dirt or other debris. The iRobot mobile application lets you select your cleaning preferences and view the map of the cleaned area. You can also program your robot's cleaning schedule.
The 980 does not have any display, nor do they have manual control. This is a major drawback for a vacuum that depends heavily on its smart capabilities. Its competitions such as Neato's Botvac Connected and LG's RoboKing line offer more control options.
4. IRobot Roomba 980
This is the most powerful robot we tested and a popular pick. It's excellent at cleaning hardwood floors and carpets. It can also pick up pet hair, crumbs and dirt. Its Power Boost mode increases suction automatically, helping to get those rug stains out of hiding.

The latest iRobot robot vacuum is able to quickly and easily take dirt off carpeted surfaces as well as hard flooring. It has replaced the nickel metal-hydride battery used in previous models with a lithium-ion one which will last longer between charges and also during cleaning sessions.
iRobot CarpetBoost automatically increases the power of its brush to take on tough spots. It can also make two cleaning passes, instead of just one. The virtual walls can be used to block off areas you want to keep clean.
WiFi and app support are standard features, and they let you schedule a recurring cleaning schedule or set additional options such as a spot cleaning cycle. The minimal display can be difficult to make use of for family members who do not have smartphones. It's also a bit more expensive than other robots that have similar features.
9. iRobot Roomba 980XL
The top-of-the-line robot from iRobot is available for PS900. The 980XL is a premium model, and the extra features make it well worth its price. It is more sophisticated mapping system than the 900-series, and it cleans better both on hard and carpet floors. It is also possible to start it from a distance.
It also comes with a powerful cleaning system including a ten-fold improvement in suction power compared to older Roombas. A dual-swivel brush allows you to reach corners and under furniture. It can mop your floor immediately after vacuuming.
It's not the most quiet, however, particularly when using the carpet boost feature. We measured it at around 80 dB--about as loud as prop planes flying overhead. Luckily, you can use an electronic barrier to keep it from sensitive areas like the dog's food and water bowls.
